Transmission 3306
Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong wrote one of the all-time great songs! I Heard It Through The Grapevine made it to the top of the charts and has been covered by hundreds of artists since it's 1968 debut.

Today's transmission of RFW squeezes every drop of juice we can get out of renditions by Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & The Pips (Remixed), Bill Frissell, CCR and The Slits. From there we sample rare vintage Black Grape and Moby Grape straight off The Vines with Adrian Belew and Cream and get drunk with a Foghat Chateau Lafite '59 Boogie. (Hic-up!)

On today's transmission of RFW, we take a dark, spastic, disjointed and perverted journey into the multi-faceted musical output of Mike Patton. This twisting and turning thrill ride includes an aural barrage fromThe Dillinger Escape Plan, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Love Age, Tomahawk, Moonchild and Fantomas. Not for the weak at heart!

I love the fact that Rock and Roll has it's own language! Bip Bop Bip, Biff Bang Pow and A Wop Bop A Loo Lop A Lop Bam Boo need no translation. Today's rockin' edition is bursting at the seams with music from Litttle Richard, The Creation, Don Covay and Mott The Hoople. We then enter outer space with a Mushroom suite filled with Joe Cocker and Toots and the Maytals and alien soundscapes from Radio Head, David Bowie and Harry Nilsson. Far out!

Jimmy, Robert, John and Bonzo were the quintessential band. Sex and drugs were prominent along with satanism, mysticism, misogyny and mystery, but they were all secondary to the music. Even on a bad night, Zeppelin was the best live show anywhere - hands down!

Today's edition of RFW gets deep into the Wohlman Live Concert Archives for some choice live Plant, Page, The Yardbirds and The New Yardbirds! We also dip into a bit of Bonham drumming and John Paul Jones bass bashing!

Radio Free Wohlman does not condone drug use of any kind. But today's transmission got very stony (knock, knock, knock!) Peter Tosh tells us to Legalize It - that even judges smoke it. (Hey it's Dave man let me in!) Rita Marley teaches Smokey and his classmates about Sensimilia and Sameti lights up a Big Fat Brother Joint of High Fidelity's Cheba Cheba. (Dave's not here man!) Joe Cocker took the entire party out to A Child's Garden Of Grass to listen to some tunes and get stoned with the Black Crowes while Chris Rush and Barry Levington rolled a kilo with the Sunday Times and ended up seeing Pot Head Pixies in a Flying Teapot from the Planet Gong! (No I'm Dave!) Do we have any Oreo's?

The warden had a party in the county jail......The Big House is not a place that most of us will ever visit, but in this edition of RFW life on the inside is described in desperate musical detail by Eric Burdon and Faces, while 10cc loads up with Rubber Bullets. We also check out new music from Scotland with Aereogramme, meet the Disco King with David Bowie and visit The Waitresses in Akron, Ohio. Rounding things out we jam to Terry Reid, Donovan, and Yoko Ono!

HAL10 - THE NOTEBOOK SESSION

I keep a notebook to write down ideas for songs, sets, segues, etc.(how retro). I do not always have time to play every song I have considered for a show and over the weeks the unused tune list increases in size and potential. Today's transmission feeds off that list and proves that there is nothing sloppy about seconds.

Our adventure includes visits from John Cale, Captain Beefheart, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Eddie Hazel, Embryo, Family, Flanger, Guns 'n' Roses, Isis, Japan, Janis Joplin, Magazine,The Modern Lovers, Red Kross, Slade, The Stooges, War and The Yardirds.

A touch of mandatory culture during today's Radio Free Wohlman transmission as we all go to the opera. Sitting in our private box, I see The Olivia Tremor Control, Queen, Neil Young and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Out in the lobby getting some air are Bill Laswell, Pavarati and Puccini. The Pretty Things are having a smoke and in the bar we find The Kinks and ELO. How high-brow can you get?

HAL9 -THE RFW RECORD PARTY

Ever since I was a very young kid, dancing with my older sister and her girfriends to her stacks of 45's, I have been addicted to vinyl. I love the shape of the album, the smell, the feel, the hole, the cover, the artwork, the liner notes, the inside sleeve with all the little of pictures of more albums. My records are my friends! Here you see yours truly posing in The Wohlman Vinyl Archives.

When recently updating the Radio Free Wohlman blog, I noticed on the neo-counter that I had a visiting listener from China. One out of 1,306,313,812 is not bad, so to welcome the new Chinese member of the family and to celebrate the true world-wide reach of RFW, we take a musical journey to this far-away land.

Along for the trip we have The Tights, The Dead and Electric Sandwich. My good buddy Greg Kihn is hangin' out in Chinatown with Thin Lizzy and The Move. Miles Davis and Johnny Thunders let their heavenly presence be known and Red Rockers, Kenny Wan and Patti Smith end things in a Chinese frame of mind.
