Rock And Roll Can Cure Dogs!

1976 was an incredible year for me. I was a 20 year old local working as the manager of the original Strawberries Records at Boylston and Exeter in Boston, had my first radio show at (then) WTBS, 88.1, Cambridge and spent afternoons on the 50th floor of the Prudential in the WBCN air-studio with Maxanne Sartori (arguably the most musically influential person in Boston Airwave history). On January 9th, all those worlds collided when I played Gloria on WTBS from the newly released Patti Smith Group debut Horses, hosted Patti at Strawberries for an in-store autograph session and watched Max emcee the PSG at a historic appearance at the fabled Jazz Workshop that was broadcast live on WBCN!

What a day!

"If she knew what she wants
If she knew what she wants
If she knew what she wants
If she knew what she wants
I'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

But she wants everything
Or there's nothing she wants
I'm crazy for this girl
If she knew what she wants
I'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

I'd say her values are corrupted
And she's open to change
But one day she's satisfied
And the next I'll find her crying
And it's nothing she can explain

No sense thinking I could rehabilitate her
When she's fine, fine, fine
She's got so many ideas traveling around in her head
She doesn't need nothing from mine

Some have a style
That they work hard to refine
So they walk a crooked line
She would not understand
Why anyone would have to try
To walk a line when they could fly

If she knew what she wants
If she knew what she needs
If she knew what she wants
I'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

But she wants everything
I can't give her everything
If she knew what she wants
If she knew what she wants
I'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

Giving it to her, now"

Transmission 1616 - You Were Meant To Be Here

I liked him from the beginning.

Missing The Nice live, attendance was mandatory at an early Emerson, Lake & Palmer show in September, 1971 at the Hatch Shell on The Esplanade of Boston's Charles River.
That night is forever etched on my fragile egg-shell mind and the
Keith Emerson Band featuring Mark Bonilla on guitar
was a great return to form.

The All Star Dead Band has a new player

It's a RFW 88 key salute to

Keith Emerson

*In my youth, I had a very strange relationship with Disco. My very Italian East Boston friends and I were most definitely rockers, but starting in 1975 there was a very simple equation:
Disco = Women.

So it was down to the Combat Zone to flagg Bros. for a pair of prerequisite platform shoes and then off to Lucifer's in Kenmore Square where a never ending supply of new college girls arrived every September from Springfield, USA to dance us into a
Saturday Night (hormonal) Fever.

It was then that I was forced to admit that
not only did Disco not suck -
Disco Ruled!

Transmission 1416 - Head Quill Pig Sapling Soars Solo

Enjoy a live hour of

Steven Wilson

with and without

Porcupine Tree

"It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares"

I would be the first to admit that I am jaded and biased.
The best shows in my concert career are all in the rear-view mirror - Right?

Steven Wilson and his amazing band proved that excitingly progressive music is alive and well in 2016. I had not been in the storied Orpheum Theatre in Boston for over 30 years, but nostalgia stopped there. The over two and a half hour show was filled with the stuff of legend; compelling songs, great sound, intricate interplay and astounding visuals - wow!

The players including David Kilminster on guitar, Craig Blundell on drums, Nick Beggs on bass and an array of other instruments and Adam Holzman on keyboards were impressive to say the least - and they all sang like birds!

The entire first half was dedicated to the melodic melancholy of Wilson's most recent release Hand. Cannot. Erase. The concept based in misery proved to inspire anything but, as the sad story was transformed into a brilliant tale that soared majestically.

The return from a brief intermission brought with it favorites from Steven's legendary former outfit, Porcupine Tree and solo favorites!

The encore of The Sound Of Muzak planted the refrain in my mind for the past week:
"It's one of the wonders of the world, going down".

If Mr. Wilson's show is going down in your town soon, don't let it go down without you!
