~I See Music In Colors~

Transmission 1215

The All-Star Dead Band is now officially in Trance Heaven. Edgar Froese, guitarist, keyboard innovator and original member of Tangerine Dream passed this week at age 70. With a few obvious exceptions, no matter the genre of music you enjoy - chances are that this man has helped to shape, inspire or spawn it's sound!

~DJ DM~

Transmission 1115

Back in my formative DJ years (the late 70's), many of the members of my musical golden circle  gravitated to performing either on the air or in the clubs. I obviously followed the radio path, but also dabbled live in the DJ booth as my alter ego, Wave Dohlman. Today, I introduce a new member of the RFW staff, the mysterious DJ Disco Mystic! Old School - EDM - Mutant, I love to dance, so here's a set that will keep you on the floor for a non-stop hour of grinding gyration!

Sweat to Lou Reed, Diana Ross, Brass Construction, Donna Summer, Chic, Mark Ronson, Simian Mobile Disco, Calvin Harris, Christina, Talking Heads and Kraftwerk!

~Fire Walk With Us~

Transmission 1015

I have always been drawn to the sights and sounds of David Lynch. They say (whoever they are?) that like-minds think alike. Which solves a mystery more pressing than who put a fish in the percolator! From Lost Highway, Twin Peaks and Eraserhead to Crazy Clown Time, Big Dream and The Air Is On Fire to name just a few, the strangely compelling sights and sounds of this director, musician, author and artist speak to me in a secret code that makes the undecipherable obvious. Why?

Yesterday (January 20th), while I was celebrating my birthday, it came to my attention that I shared this special anniversary with my name-sake. Now I understand - I think!

Enter the Black Lodge of the Wohlman Archives with Agent Gordon Cole, Dale, Shelly, The Log Lady, Annie, Norma and Bobby at The Double D Diner as well as David Bowie, Dean Hurley, Venetian Snares, Angelo Badalamenti, Peter Ivers and Trent Reznor!

~My Woodie's Outside Covered In Snow~

Transmission 715

After being schooled on the lingo, I now know that to get on a long-board and "hang-five" is a lesser version of "hangin' ten", but what about the one-legged surfing members of the RFW Family? Trying to please all we go to jail, hit the waves, remember Alex, Chris and Andy (stay healthy Jody!) and draw on current affairs of the heart with help from The Reverend J. M. Gates, Jeff Beck Group, Amon Duul II, Sublime, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Dick Dale, Malibooz, The Surfaris, The Tradewinds, Haruomi Hosono-Shigeru Suzuki & Tatsuro Yamashita, Big Star, Foghat, Nutz, Crack The Sky and Boxer!

~An Essential Introduction~

Alvy Singer: [addressing the camera] There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly. The... the other important joke, for me, is one that's usually attributed to Groucho Marx; but, I think it appears originally in Freud's "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious," and it goes like this - I'm paraphrasing - um, "I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member." That's the key joke of my adult life, in terms of my relationships with women.

Transmission 415

Expanding on the sentiment of Woody Allen's Alvy Singer in Annie Hall, by way of Groucho Marx and Sigmund Freud (what a great dinner party guest list that would be), if you can't get past the infamous "Walkie Talkie Sunrise" intro by Yin and Yan you can't get into Radio Free Wohlman!.

HATS OFF TO YIN & YAN

RFW is by design not a Greatest Hits affair, but it could be if I desire. What you hear after the opening cacophony of sound is not a musically safe environment, cooked for mass consumption or designed to shift units. I do not wish to demand that you listen, define how you listen, or desire you to like the contents of every transmission as you listen. But I do want you to listen.

The kitchen-sink mentality is purposely in place to eschew preconceived format conceptions, juxtaposition unlikely partners and expose the RFW Family (you) to artists and music that it might never willingly expose itself to next to toe tapping faves.

Therefore, the Yin & Yan intro will remain in place as a both a gate-keeping barrier of guests that would more than likely not enjoy the members of our illustrious club and to serve as a warning that this is not your standard fare - this is Radio Free Wohlman!

Get past the gate-keepers with OST music from The Trip, Hal Blaine, Emil Richards, The Zodiac-Cosmic Sounds and Paul Beaver & Bernie Krause!

~Where, Why And How Long?~

Transmission 315

Not here, there, a house or city - and certainly not in the grey, which is nowhere at all. It's not  a request or a command, a plea or choice, a question or answer. It's what you do when you are honest, rich with self-worth and value integrity.  No one should be where they do not want to be, for then each precious day is wasted; where they are unhappy, which makes their wounds self-inflicted; or where they are demanded to be by others, which reduces them to being a voluntary prisoner. A desired place in life does not not negate responsibilities, dedication or devotion - it increases the ability to fulfill them. One belongs not where you were before, but where you say you want to be to yourself and those that you ask to Believe in you now and in the future. Most importantly, you do it so your soul is able to escape complacency and rise towards ultimate potential and unrealized dreams  - which I believe is the supreme challenge and goal in life!

Stay with Jellyfish, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, Son Lux, David Bowie, Al Green, Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone, American Blues, Eddie Boyd, The Clash, Babyshambles, Talking Heads, Bill Nelson's Red Noise, Chris Spedding, Love, Nirvana and The Meters!

*Love And Rockets consisted of Daniel Ash, David J. and Kevin Haskins. All three were members of Bauhaus with Peter Murphy. And Ash and Haskins added Glen Campling on drums for their project Tones On Tail!

**Along with Gordon Mathew Thomas Sumner, the other honorees bestowed this years recognition were the right Reverend Al Green (worthy of a full future RFW Transmission), everyone's bosom buddy Tom Hanks, the ever-graceful Patricia McBride and the consistently wonderful Lily Tomlin - and that's the truth (raspberry)!

We start 2015 with a walk into the Archives including tracks on wax from Bee Gees, Buddy Holly, The Dave Clark Five, The Beatles, Badfinger, The Bees, The Beach Boys, Patti Smith Group, Wire, Joy Division, Led Zeppelin, Muddy Waters, Faust, Yellow Magic Orchestra and King Crimson - Happy New Year!
