As expected, my collaboration with Mrs. Pam RFW, pictured above with Angus, turned out to be a highly combustible affair. Turn up Van Hagar, AC DC, Local H, Prince, The Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, Ozzy Osbourne, Nirvana, Guns 'n' Roses and Def Leppard!

It wasn't the first time that Jimmy Page was accused of "borrowing" a song without giving credit or royalties. This time, he took "Dazed and Confused" by the man who later went on to write the "Be Ahhhhh Pepper" jingle and put his own name on it as the author - Whole Lotta Balls (hats off to Willie Dixon)!

Enjoy the original version and more as we crank up the newly rewired RFW studios with Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, Grateful Dead, the aforementioned Jake Holmes, The Yardbirds, The Firm, Tones On Tail, Magazine, Sufjan Stevens, The Jayhawks, The Doors, The Len Price 3 and The Who!

The sound changes as Danny Torrence's Big Wheels bike goes from carpet to hard-wood floor in the corridor of the The Outlook Hotel. The sound of fear is palatable in the voice of Wendy Torrence warning her husband as she wields a baseball bat and the sound of Jack Torrence typing all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy is just as chilling as his subtle demonic transformation. These moments and the entire film The Shining are a testament to the skill and creativity of Stanley Kubric and his highly talented staff of movie makers, but Stephen King always creates sounds of the most effective form. Those conjured by the brain from the words written by his fantastic imagination!

A musical tribute to Stephen King, The RFW Shining Suite includes apt selections by Grand Funk, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Ramones, Prodigy, Mink DeVille, The Beatles, The Kinks, Uncle Tupelo, Genesis, John Foxx & The Maths, Foghat, Captain Ilor and Humble Pie along with dialog from the 1980 film by Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duvall, Danny Lloyd, Scatman Cruthers and Anne Jackson!

We utilize the RFW Time Machine to bring us back to a simpler time when these sounds were so much younger and we were so much older - then (I'm younger than that now). * The Time Machine was the name of my Sunday Morning show that ran for many years in the 80s and 90s on the legendery KOME in the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area. It was and this is my idea of what "Classic Rock" programing could be if done with passion, pride and knowlege. Thanks to the many listeners who still remember those fun old shows.

**The entire "Lay Down" set was inspired by a suggestion for Strawbs by Marc Miller - my dear friend, radio brother and partner in crime!

The Star Spangled Banner

By Francis Scott Key - 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,

Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,

In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:

'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,

A home and a country should leave us no more!

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war's desolation!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
